This 5 inch gauge locomotive may look like a steam locomotive but it is actually a very rare battery electric locomotive built by Ride on Railways, but unfortunately they only ever sold four of them.  Pinewood member David Elen was one of the lucky people who managed to purchase one and he brought it along to an Owners Day Rally where this photo was taken.
Each axle is driven by two 150 Watt electric motors, the two 12 Volt car batteries are hidden under the saddle tank, and the electronic speed controller is in the firebox.  It is a powerful and attractive little locomotive that has none of the problems associated with owning and operating a steam locomotive.
