7 1/4 inch Gauge Denver & Rio-Grande 2-8-0 C19 Class
Owner, Paul Konig
This is the second of two Class C19s within the Society, each of which is capable of hauling the heaviest loads. The loco is 128" long
has 3.25" diameter cylinders and weighs approximately 1350lbs, with a
working boiler pressure of 110 psi. The engine is based on the North American C19 Class 2-8-0's which ran on
the narrow gauge 3ft gauge routes from the 1880s.
'Thunder Hoof' (or 'Old Glory' as she was formerly named) was built in the
late 1990s to the established John Milner design but has not always
been a star performer. Since undergoing an extensive rebuild at Andy Walton's Denver Light Railway workshops however, she has become a reliable workhorse for the Society. You can see the loco in action on You Tube by clicking here.
