The ghost of the railway
1466 was a locomotive that liked getting away with things he shouldn’t be doing.  He holds important trains up, he refuses to work too much, or just acts really silly.  I expect that we have all encountered someone like that in our life time, and here is his story…
It was 25th October, and the members at Pinewood Miniature Railway were decorating and preparing for Halloween.   Every year, 1466 would enjoy scaring everyone when they were asleep, and this year, he had a real trick up his sleeve, as he was going to send Black Five into the woods, and scare him.   He had traps set, his whistle tuned to echo, and tape recordings placed in various locations of the railway.   And 1466 was going to have a wonderful time, as Black Five got frightened extremely easily.

Meanwhile, Sylvia, Gentoo, Dick Woodruff and Wheezing were plotting their revenge on 1466 for scaring them.
“We will hide polystyrene around the railway and shout scary things at 1466 as he goes around on his last trip.   We will need some tarpaulin over the woods to make it dark as well.” Wheezing suggested.   They all agreed.
“Let’s get to work then!” Sylvia cried in her cheerful, Australian way.

Taking around some workmen to fix a point, Jubilee, the newly built Titan class, thought to himself quietly.
“I wonder if 1466 would let me help him with his plans.   You never know, he might need a diesel honk in the shadows!” he thought.   As he came to the work site, Mr. Paul, Mr. David, Jr. Mark and Mr. John prepared to alight, looking back at the tool wagon behind them.

Traction and Murray B Hofmeyer, the newest pair of locomotives on the railway, were spending some time to get to know each other.
“Now listen, Murray bro', a GWR 14XX numbered 1466 is usually up to no good on Halloween night, as he always plays around in the sheds.   So, to make sure you don’t be humiliated on your first month of being here, we are going to take a stroll through the forest instead.   That way, we won’t be interrupted by any jokes.” Traction spoke.
“This will be great!” Murray B Hofmeyer cried with excitement.   What not even 1466 knew, was that this would become a night of fright.

It was the 30th October, and 1466 had his tape recordings ready, wires to place across the track, and a few bags of flour to cover him when he would chase Black Five around.   Sylvia, Gentoo, Dick Woodruff and Wheezing had polystyrene and tarpaulin, and the Dynamometer Car to hoist it in to the trees.
“I’ll get to work!” Gentoo called, coupling himself to the Dynamometer Car, and off he went.   Soon the tarpaulin was in the trees, and it made the setting rather scary.   And now, everyone had to wait, until the following night.

Black Five went out looking for his missing railing that he had lost a few days ago.   Around he searched, and entered the area of the tarpaulin.   1466 was close up behind, with his first tape recording at the ready.   However, it had been over recorded by Mr. Colin, and it started playing Singing in the Rain!    Black Five looked back, and only thought it was a passing trick or treater.   But when the two Class 20’s heard it, they started to enjoy listening, and honking their horns in time.   Jubilee was close behind, and started to shouting out “Stop it! Stop it!” to 1466.   1466 couldn’t stand the noise and hit a tree to let his anger out.   Down came a sheet of thick tarpaulin, and landed on him.   Polystyrene then started to fall from the tree.
“Oh no!” Black Five cried, and ran down the line, with chunks of polystyrene crashing behind him.   Up ahead, he saw the three diesels discussing what on earth was going on, he applied the brakes, but he just kept skidding on the icy lines under his wheels.

Traction saw Black Five, and they all reversed into the new loop.   However, the points were triggered to keep switching, and Murray B Hofmeyer along with Black Five were zooming down towards the station.  Unfortunately, Sylvia had woken up, and was coming out of the yard.   Hey were all going to crash.

1466 was backing around, and set one of his booby traps off.   A massive swing came down, missing 1466 by two inches, and knocked over a passing trick or treater.   When he woke up, he spotted 1466 was on a collision course with Traction and Jubilee who were on a collision course with everyone else!

“Look out!” he called out to everyone.   They all looked at each other, and applied their brakes.   They all stopped just an inch from each other, and when they all looked back to see who had rescued them, they saw a little white figure disappear into the distance.
